Sarasota is located on the Gulf Coast of Florida between St. Petersburg and Ft. Myers on the Gulf of Mexico. There are 4 Interstate 75 exits, University, Fruitville, Bee Ridge and Clark Rd.
In the early 1920s John Ringling purchased Bird Key, St. Armands Key and Lido Key. His first project was to connect them to the mainland with a bridge. Bird Key came with an existing mansion that he hoped would serve as the winter White House for President Warren G. Harding. He believed this would help to advertise his development, Ringling Isles, and boost sales there. Ringling named the streets on adjoining Lido Key in honor of American presidents, but Harding died before the plan could be realized.
